Shell sells its stake in West Qurna-1 to Itochu

Iraq has approved the sale of Royal Dutch Shell's 20% stake in the West Qurna 1 oilfield to Japan’s Itochu Corporation. Additionally, Shell has stated that it plans to exit the Majnoon oil field in Iraq and hand over its operation to Iraq's state-run Basra Oil Company (BOC) by June 2018. Abdul Jabbar, the head of state-run BOC, stated in an interview that BOC had reached an agreement with KBR to help manage projects to develop production capacity at the Majnoon field. He also stated that Iraq is in discussion with another foreign engineering firm to operate the energy facilities at Majnoon and a deal is expected before June 2018.

ACWA & Marubeni-led consortium shortlisted for REPDO's solar project

Saudi Arabia has shortlisted bids by Acwa Power and a consortium led by Marubeni to develop a 300MW solar photovoltaic generation plant as part of Round 1 of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) in Sakaka, Al Jouf, Saudi Arabia. Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Repdo), which was set up to oversee the country's renewables programme, shortlisted bids submitted by ACWA and the Marubeni-led consortium over the consortium led by Masdar and its partner EDF which submitted the world's cheapest bids for a solar project. REPDO has stated that all 8 bids that were submitted have been subjected to a detailed evaluation of material compliance to RFP requirements, including the 30% local content component for Round 1 NREP projects. REPDO also stated that all companies that have submitted bids for the R1 Sakaka PV RFP are invited to participate in future projects of the NREP.

ADNOC awards 2 FEED contracts for Hail & Ghasha and Dalma fields

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has awarded two FEED contracts to develop Hail & Ghasha and Dalma fields as it looks to ramp-up gas production to meet growing domestic demand. While Bechtel was awarded the FEED contract for Hail & Ghasha, TechnipFMC was awarded the FEED contract for the Dalma field. ADNOC is expected to award technology licensor contracts soon - Gas Treatment licensor, Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) licensor, Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) licensor, Hydro treaters licensor, and a Hydrogen Generation licensor.

Bidders invited for UAE Desalination plant

Abu Dhabi has invited international firms to express interest in developing one of the world's largest water desalination plants. The project is estimated to cost around USD 800mn and will have a capacity of 200 million gallons per day. While contractors are expected to be prequalified by Q2 2018, a developer for the project is expected to be selected by Q3 2018.
